Allegations of Plagiarism from Key Witness Uncovered
in Arizona's Save Women's Sports Act Case
PHOENIX, ARIZONA – Senate President Warren Petersen is exposing serious allegations of plagiarism from a key witness in the case involving Arizona's Save Women's Sports Act, which is being challenged in federal court.
A motion filed Wednesday with the court alleges expert witness Dr. Daniel Shumer copied significant portions of his work and testimony in the case, compromising the credibility of the plaintiffs' position. Due to this shocking discovery made during a deposition last month, President Petersen is asking the court to exclude Dr. Shumer's testimony from the case. The alleged plagiarism may have serious implications in Arizona's case and similar cases around the country, with possible subsequent criminal and academic consequences.
"This revelation within the just-filed motion shows yet again that the radical left will stop at nothing to implement its fundamentally dangerous agenda around our country," said President Petersen. "Plagiarism raises serious questions about the reliability of a person's work. We are asking the court to remove the expert from this case because of these serious questions."
Petersen added, "The ultimate gaslight is to say that a boy is a girl. Now, we have learned that the expert witness did more than gaslight. We have presented the court with multiple examples of identical or virtually identical phrasing used by other academics without any attribution."
Dr. Shumer has worked against state laws protecting children from chemical and surgical mutilation, as well as girls' sports from male intrusion, in a dozen states and has received tens of thousands of dollars for his testimony over a period of more than four years. On at least 22 occasions, Dr. Shumer is alleged to have plagiarized his expert report in the case challenging Arizona's Save Women's Sports Act. He also allegedly copied material without attribution in cases originating out of Alabama and West Virginia.
Over the last several years, women and girls have been fighting an uphill battle as the radical left has compromised the safety and integrity of female sports by pushing for societal acceptance of boys and men in their athletic competitions. Without a doubt, science proves boys have physiological advantages over girls that make them bigger, stronger, and faster. For these very reasons, Senate Republicans championed the Save Women's Sports Act in 2022 to ensure women and girls have a fair playing field.
President Petersen continued, "Over the past two years, I have led the charge to defend Arizona's commonsense law that protects women in sports. Despite the many attacks from the left, I've been grateful for this opportunity to champion the integrity of women's sports - especially in the absence of our state's attorney general. I will continue to lead the fight for this law in the courts, and I am confident the Supreme Court will side with us on this commonsense issue."
Just last month, President Donald J. Trump invited President Petersen to the White House for the signing of an executive order to ban boys from competing on women and girls' sports teams.
