FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Critical state resources designated for Arizona Veterans receive continuation
Veterans in Arizona can rest assured they will have the support needed for themselves and their families, thanks to SB 1212, sponsored by Senate President Pro Tempore Vince Leach (R-11).
On Friday, Governor Doug Ducey signed this bill into law. It will continue the Arizona Department of Veterans' Services (ADVS) and the Arizona Veterans' Services Advisory Commission for the next eight years.
ADVS provides direct services to roughly 500,000 Veterans through the administration of more than 40 dedicated Veteran Benefits Counselors located across state. These counselors help Veterans connect with their VA benefits. They also staff four skilled-nursing Veterans' Home facilities and three Arizona State Veterans' Memorial Cemeteries. In addition, ADVS coordinates services across private and public sectors in serving targeted areas such as Veteran homelessness, special needs of women and minority Veterans, financial assistance, employment, education, suicide prevention and more.
The Commission consists of nine members appointed by the Governor, who each serve three-year terms. They're tasked with promoting public awareness and enhancing the well-being of past and present Arizona service members and their families.
"We owe it all to the great men and women in our state who've sacrificed so much to serve this country," said Sen. Leach. "Veterans issues can be tough to navigate, so we're incredibly happy that these resources will continue to be available to them and their families."
