Governor Signs Bill Removing Red-Tape for Job Creation,
Housing Shortage Solutions, a Prosperous Economy
PHOENIX, ARIZONA— Majority Whip Frank Carroll is thanking Governor Hobbs for signing SB 1543, empowering municipalities to permit smart zoning decisions for international companies aiming to contribute to Arizona's already robust economy.
SB 1543, sponsored by Majority Whip Carroll, is the final product of multiple stakeholder meetings, compromise, and amendments to allow Arizona to remain as a free-market environment, which helped form our state into the hub of economic opportunity that it is today. SB 1543 allows municipalities with populations between 200,000 and 500,000 to permit hotel and multifamily residential uses within areas already zoned for light industrial use if the development is part of an international headquarters campus.
"The bill allows companies, like Arizona's homegrown Axon, to expand operations, create jobs, and provide the necessary housing for their employees without having to jump through burdensome hoops. Friday's signing of SB 1543 is a major win for our state," said Majority Whip Carroll. "By removing unnecessary red tape, we are able to empower cities to support economic growth through smart zoning reforms. I want to extend a 'thank you' to everyone who has recognized the value of this bill, including Governor Hobbs. Arizona communities will finally be able to meet the needs of future workforces who are supporting the companies that are creating prosperity for our state."
