Senate Federalism Committee Sparks Solution,

Amid Fire Insurance Crisis in Arizona

PHOENIX, ARIZONA— In response to an eye-opening committee hearing to investigate the causes behind recent fire insurance cancellations and dramatic premium increases on homeowners, Senate Federalism Committee Chairman Mark Finchem is now requesting assistance from the federal government to provide indemnification to individuals impacted, and to release Arizona's land from proprietorial-only control, placing it back under the authority of the State.

During Monday's Federalism Committee, insurance representatives, energy providers, and various fire chiefs shared compelling testimony shining a light on the causes fueling the ongoing fire insurance crisis in Arizona and the effects it's having on Arizonans.

Many homeowners, living in "fire-prone" areas across Arizona, have faced the devastating reality of losing their homeowners' insurance coverage in the months leading up to the committee hearing. Due to long standing federal land mismanagement policies and activist judges, combined with organizations like the Sierra Club and Center for Biological Diversity focusing their attention on radical political ideologies, they've served as the 'ecoterrorists' who've caused the catastrophic crisis Arizonans are currently facing today. Overgrown forests, extreme fuel loads, and danger where wildland meets cities, are just a few of the many contributing factors resulting in dropped insurance coverage and increased wildfire threats. Federal inaction and inadequate funding also play a role in creating this horrendous crisis, linked directly to land mismanagement. Thanks to the support from various constituents, stakeholders, and powerful voices, a pathway towards a solution has been proposed, suggesting the federal government supply fire insurance similar to flood insurance.

"Stemming from many years of weaponized government overreach, the federal administrative state is at fault for creating this problem," said Senator Finchem. "We are blessed to have President Trump in office during this trying time, knowing his track record for taking quick and decisive actions to undo the bad policies of prior administrations. We look to the Trump Administration for assistance with a national fire insurance program to protect every homeowner and business owner in America. What we learned at the committee hearing shines light on the crucial need for the current administration to release Arizona's land from under their control, back under the control of our state government, so we can fix the issue and put our people first. I remain committed to seeing this through, ensuring every Arizonan has the security and reassurance they need to feel safe, both financially and under their roof."
