Senate President-Elect Provides Update on Majority Caucus Leadership Team and Announces Senate Committee Chairmanships
PHOENIX, ARIZONA— Senate President-Elect Warren Petersen is naming the team of Senators that will be charged with leading all Senate Committees for the 56th Legislature, as well as the next Senate President Pro Tempore.
Senator T.J. Shope (R-16) will serve as Senate President Pro Tempore. His legislative leadership skills and incredible knowledge of Arizona issues will strengthen the Majority Caucus as he serves alongside President-Elect Petersen. The duo has prior experience working together on the Arizona House of Representatives Leadership Team. While in the House, he served as Speaker Pro Tempore from 2017-2021, as well as the Chairman of the Committee on Ethics and Vice Chairman of the Committee on Rules. He was also a member of the Committee on Agriculture & Water, Committee on Energy, Environment & Natural Resources, Committee on Education, and Committee on Commerce. Senator Shope was elected to the Arizona State Senate in 2020 where he has since served as Vice Chairman of the Committee on Natural Resources, Energy and Water, Committee on Transportation & Technology, as well as the Committee on Education. He was also a member of the Committee on Health & Human Services and Legislative Council.
