Senator Finchem Calls on Impacted Homeowners to Testify on Fire Insurance Crisis During Upcoming Senate Committee Hearing
PHOENIX, ARIZONA— Senate Federalism Committee Chairman Mark Finchem is inviting homeowners impacted by a recent trend of fire insurance cancelations to join him at the Arizona Senate Monday, March 10 at 2 p.m. to share personal testimony and raise awareness on the causes and effects of this crisis during a special Senate Federalism Committee Hearing dedicated to addressing this issue.
In recent months, many homeowners living in "fire-prone" areas across the nation, including here in Arizona, have faced the devastating reality of losing their homeowners' insurance coverage. The loss of coverage and large rate increases imposed in the wake of Southern California's deadly wildfires earlier this year have raised major concerns for thousands of vulnerable homeowners, leaving them fearful they aren't adequately able to protect their home, or qualify for a new home loan if insurance is not available in certain areas.
"I am urging those who have been impacted by the fire insurance crisis to come to the Senate and make their voices heard as part of our ongoing efforts to evaluate potential legislative solutions to safeguard homeowners and hold government agencies and NGOs for their unreasonable practices," said Chairman Finchem. "I've heard from too many constituents who have had their insurance cancelled or denied simply because they live in an area at risk of wildfires. These hardworking families, who have done everything right, are being left unprotected, especially in Arizona's rural communities. Your stories are powerful, and they will help drive the change we need to protect our communities and ensure that insurance is accessible and affordable for all Arizonans who need it."
