Senator Hoffman Joins Trump Administration to Reduce Harmful Environmental Regulations Stifling Arizona's Economic Success
PHOENIX, ARIZONA— Senator Jake Hoffman is working alongside the Trump Administration to reduce harmful and unnecessary environmental regulations stifling Arizona's economic success and increasing costs on hardworking families.
On Tuesday evening, Senator Hoffman hosted a roundtable discussion at the Arizona Senate with U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) Administrator Lee Zeldin, Arizona Public Service (APS), Honeywell Aerospace, Southwest Gas, Salt River Project (SRP), Meritage Homes, Arizona Water Company, and the Arizona Free Enterprise Club to discuss commonsense policy reforms the EPA can make to unlock the full potential of Arizona ingenuity, opportunity, and prosperity.
"Arizona’s economy, driven by industries like energy, mining, agriculture, home building, and manufacturing, faces mounting pressure from stringent EPA regulations," said Senator Hoffman. "Reforming these rules could unlock growth and ease burdens on businesses while balancing environmental goals."
The EPA’s Clean Power Plan and ozone standards, for instance, impose costly compliance measures. According to the National Association of Manufacturers, billions of dollars are being drained from Arizona’s Gross State Product through 2040. These regulations hit small firms hardest, reduce entrepreneurship, and kill jobs, as permitting delays and emission offset requirements suppress expansion. Industry leaders argue rigid standards, such as those on fossil fuel plants, ignore Arizona’s unique energy needs and renewable strides, risking grid reliability amid rising demand. Water rules also overreach, complicating agriculture’s adaptation to drought without clear economic offsets.
"The potential reforms we discussed with Administrator Zeldin could streamline permitting, tailor rules to regional realities- as with transported pollutants in Arizona from neighboring states, and incentivize innovation over penalties- say tax credits for clean technology adoption," said Senator Hoffman. "This would bolster competitiveness, attract businesses, and protect jobs, especially in rural areas. Arizona’s $208 million environmental budget shows commitment, but EPA overlap often duplicates efforts. Targeted reform could harmonize federal and state oversight, fostering sustainable growth without sacrificing air or water quality."
Administrator Zeldin's participation at the roundtable marked one stop on his two-day tour, which concludes today, to meet with Arizona's elected officials, environmental experts, stakeholders, and other industry leaders.
"Arizona stands with President Trump’s agenda to usher in a golden age of American prosperity, and the EPA, under Administrator Zeldin’s leadership, stands as a critical asset in achieving the President’s vision," said Senator Hoffman.
